Carsons Cricket Club
One of the oldest clubs in the area, Mangostfield CC was formed in the 1860s by Dr Henry Mills Grace, the father of the legendary W.G. Grace. They started playing their matches next to what is now Mangotsfield United Football Club.
Carsons Cricket Club was formed in 1921 for the Carsons factory workers, and played their matches at the bottom of Rodway Hill on pitches opposite the factory. Both clubs moved to new grounds, Mangostfield to Blackhorse Road and Carsons to Sutherland Avenue. Over the years Carsons established themselves as one of the premier teams in the Bristol and District League.
As the end of the millennium approached the 2 clubs merged to form Carsons and Mangotsfield CC in 1999. While numbers continued to decline an important decision was taken to set up an Academy Section in 2008, which would cover children from reception year to Under 17s. This was to promote youth cricket but primarily to secure the long-term future of the club. In 2010 the club played their last match at Sutherland Avenue and moved to Pomphrey Hill for the start of the 2011 season, close to the original grounds of both clubs. The facilities at Pomphrey Hill include 2 all weather nets and 2 separate cricket squares as well as a pavilion.
Emersons Green Running Club was formed in the Summer of 2012 with the intention of providing a running club environment to the residents of North-East Bristol and beyond. Meetings are held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at the Pomphrey Hill Pavilion in Mangotsfield at 6.45pm and aim to run at 7pm returning to the Pavilion around 8pm.
The Pomphrey Hill Parkrun is a 5km run against the clock every Saturday at 9:00am. The Pomphrey Hill Parkrun Course is 5000m (5K) long. The course is at Pomphrey Hill Playing Fields, Bristol. The course is run on a mixture of tarmac paths, gravel paths, grass and compacted bark-chipped earth . Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.

This type of exercise can also be helpful in training for sports or rehabilitation, It is a very common misconception that Pilates is only for serious athletes or professional dancers. By holding poses for 2-5 mins we can lengthen, strengthen and change the muscles in those areas. As this is strictly for athletic performance and everyday health so no chanting or meditation in this class. What originally started in a church hall nearly 20 years ago, V Dance Academy has built an international reputation in the dance world. Dancers range in age from 3 years to over 18’s and classes cover most genres of dance from Contemporary to Street dance. We cater for those who just want to have fun dancing to winners of International dance competitions. Many of our dancers have gone on to further their dancing at degree level or even become dance teachers themselves. Everyone is welcome and exercises can be adapted for all fitness levels and injuries. The session vary from body weight sessions to using equipment such as kettlebells or boxing.
